Using Dog Flea & Tick Treatments

Vet Products Direct is committed to helping you protect your dog from fleas and ticks. We offer a wide range of affordable and effective flea and tick treatments for dogs, including chewable tablets, topical and spot-on treatments as well as tick and flea treatment collars.

Dog flea and tick treatments are recommended to prevent discomfort and future medical problems. This is why you should begin flea and tick control as soon as you suspect flea and tick symptoms on your dog.

What does a tick look like on a dog?

There are many different types of ticks that can attach to a dog’s skin, feed on their blood and cause harm. These include brown ticks, bush ticks and paralysis ticks which are the most dangerous. Generally, ticks show up on dogs as a small, black oval shape which can resemble a dark wart on the dog's fur, however, paralysis ticks are a green to grey colour and can be much larger. The larger the tick, the longer it has been on your dog. It is important that if you find a tick you treat it immediately with a tick and flea treatment and, if the treatment doesn’t work, visit your local vet.

If you think your dog might have fleas instead of ticks you can judge by identifying the flea. A dog flea will be dark brown and around 1 to 2mm long and can also be found on carpet or as specks of dirt in your dog's fur. Symptoms of dog fleas include itching and developing red bumps or pimples on certain areas of the body. If left untreated, flea bites can result in long-term health problems for your dog including infection.

When you identify fleas using flea control for dogs should be your next step, ensuring that the problem doesn’t spread further. Learn the basics of keeping your pet flea free today!
