Grooming Supplies

All of your essential grooming supplies for your cat on the one website

A well-groomed cat is a happy and healthy cat and is less likely to leave fur all over your floors and furniture. But cats aren’t always very happy to be groomed. Patience and lots of treats is the key to helping your kitty become more comfortable with being brushed and having their nails clipped.

Brushes and Combs

Brushes come in a variety of types. Certain brushes are created to groom certain types of cats (long hair or short hair, for instance) or to accomplish specific tasks (removing dander, for example). A cat brush may have hard, soft, wire, or pin-like bristles.

Slicker brushes have a flat rectangular platform covered with thin steel bristles. Slicker brushes can be used on any type of cat. If cats are groomed with this tool every day in the same place, they eventually learn to seek it out and practically beg to be brushed.

Also available are grooming pads made from rubber, such as the Kong Zoom Groom, and grooming gloves that fit over the hand. They provide a way for you to massage your cat's skin while also removing dead hair from cats with short coats.

You can also use combs. They are either fine-toothed (sometimes known as a flea comb) or wide tooth. Using a comb and talcum powder, it is possible to gently work hair mats out of long-haired cats' coats.

Nail Clippers and Scissors

Learning to clip your cat’s nails may not be the most enjoyable of tasks, but it may save you from scratches and your furniture from destruction. There are several types of nail clippers to choose from but most are a “guillotine” style, where the nail is inserted into a small opening and squeezing the handles together cuts the tip of the nail. Scissors are also available, and they generally have blunted or rounded ends to prevent cutting accidents for both the cat and the owner.

Lint Rollers

Anyone who owns a pet should own a lint roller. Getting animal fur out of your clothing can be a challenge. A lint roller eliminates the tedious process of picking fur from your clothes and furniture. You can use a lint roller on many different things, including blinds, fly screen doors, lamp shades, pool tables, couches, and cat scratch poles.

Wipes and Sprays

Sometimes your cat gets dirty, but not dirty enough for a full bath. Pet wipes are perfect for a quick clean up or to wipe muddy paws. They sometimes contain ingredients such as aloe vera or vitamin E that help keep your cat’s coat soft and shiny.

Spritzer sprays or coat sprays can be used regularly to freshen up your cat’s coat if they are not quite dirty enough for a bath, but are a tad smelly. They can also help with detangling the coat and can be sprayed onto your cat before brushing through. They are always safe for cats and non-toxic.
